Not sleeping notoriously comes with the territory of having a new baby. But when the weeks of 5-6 wakes a night turn into months…you start to lose your sanity. Literally. I like to say there is a good reason why people use sleep deprivation as a form of torture to get people to crack!
Our house is small with only two bedrooms so we were pretty limited on options of where baby Quint could sleep. Our bedroom was truly the best option as we didn’t want to risk him waking up his two year old big sister thus causing us having to deal with TWO babies awake in the night! The first few months were more manageable as you expect the exhaustion, but after 5 months of him waking 6-7 times a night…my patience dwindling by the second. I was responding and reacting in ways that quite frankly were so irrational and embarrassing. I was angry. I was emotional. I just wanted.to.sleep.
My husband begged me to seek help..to which I responded with “how can someone else fix this?” I had tried ALL the tricks and nothing was working so beyond hiring a night nurse (which is crazy expensive) what could possibly be done to remedy this situation? He gently responded with “well we need to try something…” That’s when I contacted Sleepy Cues. I skeptically sent that first inquiry email, convinced I would be wasting my time and money but knew I had to do this to tell Dwight “I did something.”
Because to be honest, I didn’t think they would be able to “fix” him. I already had him on a schedule and “knew all the tricks.” They quickly sent me a sleep proposal with a detailed schedule and list of tools and tricks to use when he woke up. Would you believe that he slept 12 hours straight through the night the first night I began the new schedule?!? He went from waking 4-6 times a night to completely sleeping through the night. I went from a worn-out, angry mommy to enjoying my days now that I had more structure and a solid game plan on how to help Quint sleep better. If you are reading this and feel like you are at the end of your rope with you sleepless home, give Sleepy Cues a try.
